I would like to guide you through repair of your radio.
The very first thing you need to do is get a schematic!!
I really cant emphasize this enough. Take the back of the set 
off if you havent alreay done so and look for any information 
which may be inside the set. Sometimes a full schematic is 
there (It may be very small and hard to read). Even if there 
is no schematic in there the chassis should have a number.

After getting all the info you can; make, model, Serial 
no.,chassis no. etc. do a search online! There are some 
groups who post schematics for old radios.

I managed to find schematics and manuals and other 
documentation for my "1943 RCA golden throut tone" radio as 
well as my "jackson dynamic tube tester"!
