comcast.net has been acquiring other providers and making them change
e-mail addresses. D. Cummings sounds like someone who I have seen posts
from, but I can not be certain.

I seem to remember a post by someone that referenced a web page on a
political discussion page that referenced "Maelstrom", but I can not be
certain.

My guess is that they are real.

Also, some like me will subscribe to receive e-mail under a different
address than we post from.

If you have any doubts, take the I.P. address that your mail server
accepted the e-mail from. If it matches what it told your mail server,
then it will probably not be a problem, even if it does not match the
domain name that the poster uses for e-mail.

If it does not match, it means that either their mail server is
misconfigured, (many are), or they are trying to hide their path.

My guess is that you will not see much of that for deliberate
subscription requests.
