I did check with Google back then.  The URL you posted was basically the 
only one that was a still a valid link.

Only the read only access news servers appeared to work.

Basically according to his explanation, he is probing for security holes 
in the servers.  So as soon as the someone starts abusing the news 
server, the owner either secures it, or the the other news servers 
de-peer them.

So these are not servers that are advertising free public access.

So the read only feeds are likely to keep working, but none will likely 
give write access for more than a few hours, or they probably are not 
being propagated to other news servers anymore.

I would not want to set up a news feed through a server that was 
accidentally open, or want to continually be rotating through different 
feeds.
