[Coco] Newibe: how to type braces in MESS or the emulators?

 OK, I give up - how do I type braces  {  }   on the emulators (MESS and
Jeff Vavasour's Coco3) for coding in C?  Do I have to define something like:
#define STARTSCOPE <<<whatever the value for { is >>>
#define ENDSCOPE <<<same>>>

And just use STARTSCOPE and ENDSCOPE instead of braces?
