[Coco] Re: PayPal & Ebay guns

There are gun auction sites on the web run by gun dealers who know all the
legal ramifications. It may be a morality issue with the guys at e-bay, but
more likely it's legal concerns. You can buy gun parts and accessories on e-
bay, just not complete guns themselves (no major parts like firing mechanisms
either, so you can't buy enough parts to assemble a gun). So someone else
gets some business other than the mega site e-bay. No problem.

I've used PayPal just about since they started. All the hype about PayPal
being bad is just so much BS. Is it possible to get scammed through PayPal?
Of course. That hasn't shut e-bay down, and you can get scammed there too. Or
through phone slales or any other medium. PayPal was able to recover $18 on a
$125 loss I had once from a dealer who didn't complete a transaction (I never
received product). I'm sure the money came from someone who paid him before
he had a chance to remove the money, and they may have lost too though.
That's unfortunate, but the account was frozen because of the complaint and
they did what they could. It happens sometimes. Out of nearly 100 e-
bay/PayPal transactions that's the only loss I've had.

To keep this CoCo related, there is no better place to buy used computer
equipment than e-bay, and PayPal makes the transactions easy. I let a couple
clubs know about my CoCo stuff first, but no one was real interested, so I
put it up on e-bay and got a decent price for it. I wasn't being outrageous
in the asking price, even a little lower than average, but at the time the
market witin the clubs was pretty flooded from people who'd bought a lot of
RS stuff when the CoCo was discontinued and from people leaving already. So
lots of stuff was available cheap. Now there is only one big club, Glenside.
I don't know if the Atlanta group (2nd largest at one time???) even holds
meetings anymore, or anyone else. I only hope that in a couple years there is
still a CoCoFest so I can go one last time when I get back from Korea.
