Hi Charlie,
Are you using the HTTP web UI? It sounds like you are.
The second question is where are you running your web browser? Are you running it on the same computer as pyDriveWire or a different computer? The answer to this question is important to keep in mind as you continue reading.
On the web Ui front page , there are 4 lines each for Drive 0, Drive 1, etc.
There are also two columns in the interface, one is labeled “Remote File” and the other is “Local File” — If you load a file from the “Local File” and use the file browser, the pyDriveWire server makes a copy of the file on the server side. This is how it was designed.
The reason is the perspective of “Local” and “Remote” — If you run pyDriveWire server on computer A and the web browser on another computer Computer B, then “Local” is on Computer B. You click “Choose File” and select a file a copy of that file gets uploaded to the “Remote” side where the pyDriveWire server is running.
If you are running the pyDriveWire server and the web browser on the same computer then this makes less sense. Using the “Local” Side it will still upload a copy to the server the way described above.
If you want pyDriveWire to operate directly on a disk image which is accessible wherever the server is running, you can type the path to the file in the “Remote” box and then click “Insert”
I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you still have questions about this. I can try to explain it a bit more.
