The problem is the wiggling of the cart when it is inserted or removed. We can try to minimize the wiggle, but we can't eliminate it altogether. It is during the wiggling that it is possible for the right pin to make contact with a wrong pin. Then you get the poof and your CoCo gets zombified and in need of a new brain.

I've always had a question about this, and your reply below reminded me. Does the warning about a 12V charge destroying the CPU apply ONLY to the Coco1?
Would a Coco2 or 3 be susceptible to this condition?
I'm certain it is a bad idea to remove/plug in a cartridge on any running Coco, but I am interested in the likelihood of destroying a CPU.
