[Coco] I have a bad/ good 6809?

I have a 6809 in one of my coco3 's. It seems to work perfectly with my sdc, my hard drive but not with the fd501?    When I try to do a DSKINI the computer goes crazy and locks up.   I swapped this cpu into another coco3 with a different disk controller (disto) and it does the same thing.   When I replace the 6809 with a different one the drive works perfectly.    As anyone ever seen this before?
