Thanks.  That's what I'm worried about.  I'm not qualified to work with dangerous electrical items so I think I'll call it a day on this item and toss it out.

Better safer than sorry.

More than a 50% chance of bad caps in the ccfl backlight circuit.  That involves dangerous voltages, so let a pro, somebody with a CET card look at it.
