Those early full height drives not only had a slow stepping rate (20 ms),
but also couldn't handle a full 40 tracks, which is why RS chose 35 tracks
as the CoCo standard. I think they were physically capable of 37 or 38
tracks only.
A number of third party vendors of disk drives offered them in combination
with a controller with a modified RSDOS to take advantage of the 6 ms
stepping rate their drives were capable of. That's why Rietveld ran into
the situation of having a controller that wouldn't work with his early
drive.
