[Coco] Altera DE1 for sale

One thing I always found odd about the Altera boards (DE1/DE2) was the
video sync code supplied with the CD as "Examples". I noted that the
code has the VGA sync timing parameters correct but the code adds in
"fudge factors" (i.e. delay parameters). The DE2 has additional clocks
added to the code beyond the delays. I always attributed this to the
clock difference between the 27.125Mhz being limited to 27.2Mhz from
the PLL on the Altera board.
To investigate this, I rewrote my own video sync generator that uses
only the true video timing with no added delays and "fudge nuggets" of
code. It works perfect and doesn't have any problems with any monitor
I've tried. I discovered what they were doing wrong and am convinced
the code was written by interns (LOL)

It's been awhile since I installed the software (this is my second
board) but I remember the disc being pretty useless. I had to
download the newer version anyway. I'll be doing it again...
BTW, I'd bet these came from ITT Technical Institute as part of the
closure. My board is labeled as EECS which sounds like one of their
class labels. Mine is board #60, so that might help in determining
     how many are available.
     Thanks for the link.

     FWIW:
I'm taking a closer look at it today. My board is actually in
excellent shape; apart from the broken plexiglass, it looks almost
     new.
I connected it to a monitor and the (included) power supply. When I
pressed SW11, (with SW12 in the RUN position,) the monitor came
alive with the Altera demo screen and the LEDs began their chase
sequence. The 7-segment displays began counting from 0-F. Pressing
Key0 reset the demo, and SW0 displayed a color test screen. When I
connected a speaker to the headphone jack, I got a normal tone. SW11
     stops and starts the demo.
In my box, I received the DE1, a CDROM, USB cable, and the power
supply. I did not receive any documentation (other than the CD), nor
a jumper wire. Frankly, we only need the board and the power supply
     - the rest is easily obtained or is irrelevant; the software is
downloaded. Despite my OCD I'm pleased.
Looking at the board, SRAM 512KB is a IS61LV25616AL-10 which (as far
as I can tell) is the older version. The newer boards used the
     IS61WV25616EDBLL-10. I don't anticipate any issues.
It's not much of a gamble. Stakes aren't very high.

     Similar experience here, too...
Thanks Jim, Rob, Dave & James for your feedback.
I think I'll take a gamble; looks like it's luck of the draw. I
suspect the seller might mix it up a bit if I purchase 4 though...
we'll see. I'm yet to get confirmation of my counter offer, though I
didn't offer any less than someone else has reported - and I'm
     taking 4...
     Regards,
