[Coco] Did everyone see the announcement today?

In support for the idea on the power of buying just the name, in the late 70s, many quality guitar (and other musical instrument) companies went under due to several companies using overseas assembly and offering cheaper instruments. Since then, almost every ones of those name brands have been bought by 2 or three of the conglomerates and are being produced again, but at half the quality of the originals. Most are being made in the same factories as the others, just with cheaper parts.

Date: Mon, 9 Oct 2017 17:03:13 +0000 (UTC)From: Salvador Garcia <salvadorgarciav at yahoo.com> I heard about it, but it seems that people weren't sure what Adafruit bought, exactly, if anything at all. Some speculates that it just bought a bunch of share certificates I think this is one case where we need to wait and see.Personally, it seems weird that Adafruit would have bought RS. If they did, how would this help? Stores are gone. Physical property has been auctioned off. Definitely need to wait and see. Salvador====================================================Don't underestimate the power of a nationally recognized name brand, even if it did fall to the wayside a bit in recent years. People still recognize it instantly. Lots of brand names have been bought and exploited in their final years. Many of the quality name brands of the past have been purchased by smaller companies then slapped on a cheaper product, but it typically works (fools) enough people for long enough to be worth the effort. Adafruit may have been going for the name recognition, but not necessarily to slap on an inferior product. As you said, we'll have to wait and see...
