EZGen is from Burke & Burke, written by Chris Burke. 
KWIKGEN is the one used by the original NitrOS9 authors - since it was memory based (rather than disk based like ezgen or config), it was much faster to work with. But neither checks dependencies between device descriptors, drivers and file managers.
