[Coco] 6809 cpu

I agree, given the choice, the Hitachi item is the way to go. I decided to order a few 6809 mainly because they are cheap and if I am going to get started with this processor, I want to spend as little as possible to blow it up<g>. Once I have something going with the 6809 I would probably migrate to the Hitachi version, if appropriate.
For uP replacement on a CoCo, going with the H 6309 is a no brainer :-).

Hi Scott,

No, the 6309 is fully compatible in 6809 mode.  If you’re an assembly
programmer, it also has a number of additional instructions and registers,
and also executes many 6809 instructions faster in native mode.

The 6309 is a much improved CPU IMO.

In any case, installing a socket will allow you to switch back and forth
without any trouble.
