You say it's easy because you just go out and buy the adapter and it 
works.  But someone put thousands of dollars of research and development 
into that HDMI adapter and amortized that cost over the thousands of 
units they sold (hopefully).  So, for someone, it *was* a difficult 
project!  I think Jim is talking more about the work that goes into such 
a project at its lowest level.
