center the signal to zero via a capacitive coupling, and stick to a
transistor base.  output off common (high impedance -inverted). maybe
ground a diode off base to bias it all to get closer to zero. basically
match C's resistor to match the input impedance of your pin.  Probably
really high, right?

I am hoping I can reach a breakthrough in the next week or so.  I have an
idea for CocoFEST, but time grows short.  Dig out your Teensy :-)
