Allen,

Don't think you must put a Smartwatch (DS1216) in a disk controller. It can go 
in any ROM Pak by replacing the original ROM.
Since the Coco ROMs normally have fewer pins, the Smartwatch socket hangs over 
the ROM socket so that the first two and last two pins are free. Use a small 
wire to connect SM pins 1 and 3.
I've even been able to connect a new battery to the SM when the enclosed one died.
