[Coco] Joystick Keyboard

I was flipping through a bunch of old CoCo magazines today and looking at
the various 3rd party keyboards. Wish I had bought 100 and stores them away!

I know there is a 3rd party PS/2 adapter for the CoCo, but I'm wondering if
there has ever been any keyboard projects that connected to the joystick
port? For example, the keyboard would send coordinates 0,0 and that would
mean no keys were pressed. Pressing the 1 key, would move the joystick
position to 10, 0. Pressing the 2 key, would move the joystick position to
20, 0. And so on, forming a matrix out of the joystick coordinates. Of
course this would need some tweaks to the ROM. I'm not an engineer so if
this idea is ludicrous, I apologize in advance.

Last question. The 16 pin keyboard connector on the motherboard... what are
they called on sites like DigiKey, Jameco, etc? 'Flex cable connectors?'
Can someone send me a SKU # of a connector that would work.

Cheers,

Carlos
