Has anyone ever tried to increase the number of sector per track? You
would have to setup a test rig and check for increased error rates.

Since more than half of the track is used for house keeping. I wonder
how many more sectors could safety be added to each track?

I'm sure the originators of the format tried to maximize the sector
count, but maybe they were too conservative.
