I have two DELL laptops that I updated to Win 10; a DELL Vostro 1500 and a DEL Inspiron 11. Once I reserved my Win 10 upgrade I waited, and waited until finally ti started to download. This all happens in the background. You continue to use your computer as usual. When the upgrade is ready and downloaded Windows will ask when you want to schedule the upgrade. Once the upgrade begins it will take a while. Rent your favorite movie trilogy<g> (as long as you don't have to stream it using the computer you are updating).

Both my updates went fine. I am surprised how well it runs on my aging Vostro 1500. One app I don't like is Edge, the new Internet browser. It has crashed a few times for no apparent reason. Java updates will install, but when the post install process takes you to the verification page, it tells you that Edge is not supported. The Edge browser does not automatically present an address bar. I have to click on the area where it should be for it to appear. My solution: Use Firefox or Chrome.

Another odd behavior, and this might not be exclusive to Win 10, is the locale configuration. I went to Mexico on a trip and my Inspiron decided to switch languages. Now I am back in the US (I've been here for a month now) and Win 10 still comes up in Spanish! I can't seem to revert back to English as it was before the trip. This is mostly a config issue, but I just want my stuff to work. I did not even want Win 10 to change to Spanish since it was short trip. Frankly, I don't feel as though I should have to dedicate time to research and "fix" the issue.

Gene, at this time I am trying to learn more about Linux so that i can use it seriously. I feel as though I am at the level where I can power up, login, browse Internet, and shutdown, but I want to go much farther. I think it is important to know Linux, and to know it well. But this is a Windows world. Many use Windows, for better or worse, for the simple fact that this is where the money is. I am trying to change that by looking for employment and projects that are more Linux centric, but once someone has been in a specific field for most of their career, it is hard to convince anyone that they can do anything other than that. If you can perform all your activities off the Windows grid then fantastic! Unfortunately, this is not the case for many of us. The biggest problem I have with Linux is that I can't find a way to determine which of the many (many) distros there are out there is best suited for my needs.
