It seems you must have missed the "Notes for Linux platforms" part?

The instructions can probably be made more suggestive of using stable
releases, and point out that you don't have to build what you install
prebuilt.

Don't get me wrong, it is important than people help out testing the
development versions of the tools as well. So it is great if people
build latest toolshed and lwtools and report issues. However, start
out with stable releases first to make sure you have a solid base!
Learn to drive a car before becoming a test pilot :)

Thanks, that's interesting and good to know. My impression is that the
LTS releases are very good after their .1 release, and that non-LTS
releases is a waste of time, they have too many bugs that never get
fixed. Although I have the impression some LTS+1 (like 14.10) are good
also - maybe all the work on polishing the LTS .1 release keep
developers from adding too much new broken features into LTS+1 :) -
but their short support cycle is a no-go for me.
