James, the original author of Vcc WAS going to release it open source but disappeared before doing so. Several of us were in contact with him when he stated this and he had implied he was going to release it in the next month or two... and never did. It's feared his health turned for the worse and that's why he disappeared.
The original source is written in Microsoft Visual C++ (win95) and DirectX 8. To convert it to any form of modern programming language would be a feat in itself, but could probably be done by someone with knowledge of such conversions.
On the other hand, there are several open source 6809 CPU emulations around and if you look, I'm pretty sure you can find enough on the GIME to emulate it (JV, VCC and Mess did).
The problem is that no one with that kind of programming knowledge seems to be interested in writting a cross-platform Coco 3 (or Coco 2) emulator.
Probably the best bet is to get on the "Mess Dev Team" and fix the very buggy Coco emulations there which CAN be compiled for most platforms. Every release seems to introduce a new bug.

I commented about using VCC on the Facebook Group

"Simply an incredibly stunning feat! Good job! I currently don’t have a CoCo3,
so I tried it on VCC 1.42. If you Config Right Joystick to Keyboard, I thought
it was very playable (and natural) using the up / down / left / right keys and
the F1 key to jump. I understand what Nick is saying that on a real CoCo3 there
is a greater sense of the feat – but VCC does a good job at faithfully emulating
the CoCo3 (at least on an AMD A10-6800K @ 4.12 Ghz it does!). So to me, I'm
still super impressed."
I’ll add here I meant to mention, the sound is not that
great of VCC, but I can’t compare it to a real CoCo3. But the graphics +
animation are spot on.
It really is too bad that the VCC owner will NOT
officially open source the thing. I don’t have any idea what he gains by
keeping it close source. I would be more than willing to offer improvements – a
command bar for quickly switching common options on/off – implementing the keep
aspect ratio for resizing. Drag and drop disks and carts. There are a lot of
things like that, that would make this very cool emulator – it already is quite
outstanding as it is.

it seems that it might not work well with an emulator, but I did not see any
reference to Vcc. Salvador
