[Coco] Does anyone know if/where the Rainbow Guide to Statisticssoftware has been archived?

Camillus, I have thought of that as well, but wasn't sure if I'm "hardware tech" enough to do it. I probably could. I've opened old dead drives just to see what's in them so I'm familiar with the internals of a drive.

Sadly, I doubt very seriously I could be at the fest... unless I win the lottery between now and then. I'm in North Carolina and that's a long drive (even if my car worked LOL) or an expensive plane/bus/train ticket.

The one time I thought I was going to one of the fests was when they were still having the "PennFests" (mid 90s) in Pennsylvania and I was packed and ready to go, but we had a hurricane come in that weekend (I live on the coast) and we had to evacuate our home so I missed it.

If you know where to find motors for these drives, I can send you the info. I'm willing to get one and try, I just don't know where to start looking.
It was a external USB Seagate FreeAgent 1.5TB. One of the big ones that actually contains a full size SATA drive.

Thanks again :-)

So I presume it's a Seagate. What about putting a new motor in yourself. All you need is an head-holder ( plastic device to keep the heads from scratching the surface, while moving them out of the way. The platters can be removed easily, and the motor is a brush less type. The cost would minimum, but the drive being open will not run long, but more then long enough to rescue the data.I do not know if you gonna be at the coco-fest next year, but if you tell me the exact drive model ( all the numbers on it ... LOL ),then I look up the right tool, and if reasonable priced I buy it for you. Then at the fest we can do some surgery?.It up to you of course. My guess the trouble worth.cbSent from Mailbird [http://www.getmailbird.com/?utm_source=Mailbird&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=sent-from-mailbird]On 12/18/2015 11:18:16 PM, Bill Pierce via Coco <coco at maltedmedia.com> wrote:Thanks for the offer Camillus, but I don't think that's needed. I have actually found local people that can do it cheap, but they relocated and I haven't seen their shop advertized in a couple of years. I just have to find them.I was just wondering if anyone knew of anything else cheap... I'm aware of the "Big Boys" who charge the big bucks, but I know it's not that big of a deal. Not with this drive anyway. All data is intact, the electronics are functional, but the motor is dead. Either a new motor or external motor to spin it up long enough for a one-time read to copy it all to a new drive is all that is needed.Seagate was actually offering to do this for free back when they found out the run of drives was bad, but mine ran for 4 years without a problem and they don't do it anymore. The drive was a gift and I didn't know about the bad run until I read about it after my drive died. Thanks again :-)Bill Pierce"Charlie stole the handle, and the train it won't stop going, no way to slow down!" - Ian Anderson - Jethro TullMy Music from the Tandy/Radio Shack Color Computer 2 & 3https://sites.google.com/site/dabarnstudio/Co-Contributor, Co-Editor for CocoPediahttp://www.cocopedia.com/wiki/index.php/Main_PageGlobal Moderator for TRS-80/Tandy Color Computer Forumshttp://www.tandycoco.com/forum/E-Mail: ooogalapasooo at aol.com-----Original Message-----From: CamillusTo: Bill Pierce via CocoSent: Fri, Dec 18, 2015 11:51 pmSubject: Re: [Coco] Does anyone know if/where the Rainbow Guide to Statisticssoftware has been archived?Maybe we can do a fondsraising.I presume that hd restore is about 2000 to 5000$ ( have to check it ).I would be ok to put in a $30 to support this, with the option that I can have the coco 3 related data on a cd-rom if restored. Not needed to say that is for the data you can legally give away.So if other people put in what they can, then you can ship out the drive to professional restore facility. We all profit from this and let's face it, what would the coco (1,2,3, 4, .n ) be without the supporting software? If any others are in favor of this then let Bill know...cbSent from Mailbird [http://www.getmailbird.com/?utm_source=Mailbird&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=sent-from-mailbird]On 12/18/2015 7:04:12 PM, Bill Pierce via Coco wrote:I have no idea how big the MM archive is. I recently lost my local copy due to my external HD crashing so I'm having to re-download it myself (a little at a time).I had copies of internet coco archives that no longer exist and lost all of them. I know... no backup. I had no way of backing up almost 1.4 TB as I couldn't afford another drive. I lost a lot of stuff and at least close to 500gig was Coco related.Which reminds me... Anyone know someone who does Hard Drive data recovery at a 'reasonable' price?Bill Pierce"Charlie stole the handle, and the train it won't stop going, no way to slow down!" - Ian Anderson - Jethro TullMy Music from the Tandy/Radio Shack Color Computer 2 & 3https://sites.google.com/site/dabarnstudio/Co-Contributor, Co-Editor for CocoPediahttp://www.cocopedia.com/wiki/index.php/Main_PageGlobal Moderator for TRS-80/Tandy Color Computer Forumshttp://www.tandycoco.com/forum/E-Mail: ooogalapasooo at aol.com-----Original Message-----From: CamillusTo: Bill Pierce via CocoSent: Fri, Dec 18, 2015 7:40 pmSubject: Re: [Coco] Does anyone know if/where the Rainbow Guide to Statisticssoftware has been archived?Hi, Bill,What is the amount of space we talking about here.I will look into some possibilities. I would imagine trying to sort that rat's nest out would burn the bandwidth a hundred times over.It needs a home on an unlimited server so it can be downloaded at will.Bill Pierce"Charlie stole the handle, and the train it won't stop going, no way to slow down!" - Ian Anderson - Jethro TullMy Music from the Tandy/Radio Shack Color Computer 2 & 3https://sites.google.com/site/dabarnstudio/Co-Contributor, Co-Editor for CocoPediahttp://www.cocopedia.com/wiki/index.php/Main_PageGlobal Moderator for TRS-80/Tandy Color Computer Forumshttp://www.tandycoco.com/forum/E-Mail: ooogalapasooo at aol.com-----Original Message-----From: CamillusTo: Bill Pierce via CocoSent: Fri, Dec 18, 2015 5:44 pmSubject: Re: [Coco] Does anyone know if/where the Rainbow Guide to Statisticssoftware has been archived? What is there to need to be done?Sort out the archive or what?Let me know and I see if I can make some time...cb Sent from Mailbird [http://www.getmailbird.com/?utm_source=Mailbird&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=sent-from-mailbird]On 12/18/2015 2:06:41 PM, Stephen H.
