For your second question, do you have the /X0 etc and your /d0 etc in your boot?.  I have /x0, /x1 .. /x4 as well as /d0, /d1 & /d2 for rb1773.  So for copying I usually mount DW /x1 (or disk 1 in DW) to what I want to copy and go to my HD (/dd) or any other drive.
