One thing I've noticed about SymbOS is that it's VERY differently
structured than OS9. While OS9 appears to be a fairly typical
monolithic kernel design, Symbos looks, on paper at least, like some
sort of a microkernel that runs at least the file system and possibly
some other bits in external processes. Given that the Z80 lacks any
sort of memory protection, there's no real performance penanty for
doing so, but you also don't the security advantages that microkernels
provide in more typical enviroments.
