Wayne, on further investigation, the "syscall" listing in the Rainbow article was written by Robert Doggett from Microware. And ironically... was a Thanksgiving gift (inadvertently) to the OS-9 community :-)
I would imagine that this was source was eventually used in much later Level 2 version.

I think I found your answer to where the "syscall" subroutine for Basic09 came
from for OS-9 Level 1.
Try Checking out Dale Puckett's "Kissable OS-9" in the November 1984 issue of
Rainbow page 280. The actual listing for "syscall" is on page 284.
