I tried testing it out with some much narrower paper from my HP48's printer, and the print head caught on the edge of the paper. But it's good to know that there's some room for slop in the paper width.

Sounds like that would be a good option if I expect to use the printer heavily, but chopping down a roll of fax paper might be a good experiment to try anyway since a case would probably be way, way more paper than I'd ever need.
