[Coco] Weird CoCo 2 keyboard problem -- any ideas?

P.S.  I assume that you've verified that the problem occurs no matter which
of the two shift keys you press?

Have you checked whether the problem occurs with software that doesn't use
Basic's keyboard scan routine?   OS-9 for example?
