Art, another way to to look at that is; are all the other "good" chips on the board worth it? It might be a good parts board. If the Gimi is blown, the 6809 alone is worth the price. Same if it's the 6809. The Gimi is worth the price.

I've had at least two 6809s go bad, though I don't recall the exact symptoms.
But you are likely right that the GIME would be a more probable
suspect. That raises an interesting question: Would one pay ANY
money for a CoCo 3 with a bad GIME? Or are GIMEs now so unobtainable
that replacing one would cost more than the machine is worth?
