[Coco] 6809 vs 6309 question

I know this has been discussed many times in the past but I needed to know this kind of quick and didn't feel like searching the specs for the info (read lazy, rainy day :-)P
Is there any advatage of using the 6309 in "emulated" mode vs the 6809?
I know it's much faster than the 6809 and has added instructions in "native" mode. That I'm familiar with. I have written asm programs for the 6309 in native mode.
Also, can the extended instructions be used in emulated mode?
