Perhaps not a flood of high effort massive machine language games, but look at the tons of games being cranked out by entrants in the CoCo Coding contest. Certainly more than a trickle, plus folks do seem attracted to new stuff - many demos and other projects happened because of some discovery. This would be one heck of a "new stuff" to play with.
