[Coco] Well I think that the http://www.tandycoco.com/forum/ is being shut down. Or should be.

Stephen,
This quote - "Well I think that the http://www.tandycoco.com/forum/ is
being shut down. Or should be. We CoCoers do not wish to use it as
intended and in the ways it can be used. "
To me, this quote, coupled with later comments in your message,
suggested you were saying that you felt the forum should be shut down -
and it wasn't a knee-jerk reaction since I read it several times over
trying to understand the message you were trying to get across. If I
misread your intent, which it appears I did, I'll be more than happy to
issue a public apology - and I have re-instated your account.
As for the the editing of posts; not gonna happen - unless the community
as a whole thinks it's a good idea. Sorry, but, I have never been on a
forum that allows open ended post editing. Obviously, that means I am
not a member of the AVS forum. And yes, I did get annoyed that another
user removed his content from a thread, since it screwed up the
continuity of the information present in that thread.
And there has always been a lot of silence on the forum. That is
obviously not my preference, but, it's the nature of the beast.
Occasionally - maybe rarely - it gets noisy for a bit and then settles
down. As I stated earlier, I had no illusions that this forum would
overtake the mailing list - ever.
Lastly, the forum is not a Wiki - if you wish to view your posts to it
as such, so be it, I'm not going to argue the differences or
similarities anymore as it's wasted time on both parts - agree to disagree.
To the rest of the CoCo Community -
The forum is not going anywhere. As long as I'm around and capable,
it'll certainly be a resource for whomever wishes to use it. And to
address Gene's control freak statement about forum operators - that's
mostly true, seen that myself. My only real requirement is that people
be respectful of each other when posting. I fully believe discussions
can be spirited, but, I don't like to see posts that are abusive to
others. Disagreement and discussion will occur anywhere (even here on
the mailing list), but, it can be kept mostly civil.
The only actual posts I've deleted from the forum (besides Stephen's
last night) were posts by spammers, before I put in the manual account
activation. Now when I'm notified of new accounts, I use several methods
to cross check new users to ensure they are really interested in the
CoCo, and not just trying to spread spam.
Brian
