[Coco] DE1 Blues...

After a few months away on other pursuits, I'm trying to boot my CoCo FPGA 
(DE1 version) and getting absolutely nowhere.  The DW4 java server comes 
up and cheerfully attaches to either ttyS0 (serial port) or ttyUSB0 (USB 
over FTDI adapter).

However, the blasted board will not boot.  It doesn't even appear to try. 
Just comes back immediately with ?IO ERROR.  I see no sign that any 
communication is taking place with the server software.  Same brain-dead 
behavior on both ttyS0 and/or USB-->Serial.

Any suggestions about where to start debugging this?
