This seems to be a common misunderstanding. There is nothing
"insecure" about the telnet protocol itself. It is simply a mechanism
for transferring bytes from one place to another. No more or less
secure than HTTP, SMTP, or any other unencrypted channel.
It *is* insecure to send login information over an unencrypted
channel, but my Bedlam game doesn't do that. Unless you are concerned
that someone might intercept your traffic and determine that you are
about to feed hamburger to the guard dog, there is no issue here.
