Pilot,
As you have found, it is important to indicate which version of an emulator is
being used when making bug reports. It is also important to indicate the
condition of emulation such as if a Coco3, which screen mode is active.
As to your program, I think you have come to the wrong conclusion. There is a
problem with recent versions of MESS but the emulation does not lock up.
Try the same program but change the value POKEd into the palette registers. I
think you will find that for values other than zero, the program will work as
intended. That points to failure on the unique condition of zero but not a
generic failure. Without further testing, you can't tell anything more than the
program does not work as expected on some versions of MESS.
