PS: The altera stuff won't even start to install. After also consigning
my firstborn, and downloading a 20.3 megabyte installer script:

[root at coyote Download]# sh ./altera_installer.external.sh
Creating directory bin
Verifying archive integrity... All good.

I _did_ think it was a good idea, now I'm not so sure. Neither of these
folks seem to have a very good grasp of how to run on a recent, all
uptodate (kde-4.6.5, 147 pkgs of it, installed this morning) linux system.

Any clues available, or do they have an email trouble shooting address? I
didn't see one that had a working link behind it.

Cheers, gene
