How fast and what voltage? Either way will not be cheap.
5 volt parts are getting rare and garner a premium in price.
3.3 and lower parts are still available but are also costly.
Many of the secondary suppliers like Digikey and Mouser are not stocking a large selection of
SRAMs anymore. 8megabit SRAM configured as 1Mx8 are not in demand now so they are
not stocked. They can be had but with minimum order requirements. Sixteen and thritytwo bit
wide SRAMs are more in demand and are more available.
Expect to pay in the $20 range for 3.3 V 10 nS access speed 1Mx8 srams. Slower speed will
still set you back at least $12.
Another alternative is to use four 512Kx8 SRAM. That will still end up at around $25. Then
you need the level translators to boot.

After I debugged my son's 2meg DRAM interface, I decided to have a look at his 2 Meg SRAM design. He used a 1Mx16 SRAM in the design, however this design will not work. I see how he used A0 to differentiate between the upper and lower byte (odd/even byte) , but this will prevent any GIME graphics mode that requires a 16-bit read from being able to function properly. It seems that using two separate 1m x 8 chips would likely be the easiest and most logical solution to this problem, although it could be done with a 1mx16, I'll leave that to John if he wishes to continue working on it, but I believe it will be relatively simple to fix the design by simply using the two 1mx8's..
