And you forgot to mention the PITA that logging in before one can post, not 
to mention the majority of it is html, exposing you to the security breaches 
inherent to that format.

Here, I have a script that sucks from all 3 servers I have access to every 3 
minutes, works totally in the background.  Kmail then scans the mailfile 
that script dumps into and sorts it to the mailing list folders.  That 
script also commands spamassassin, so 95% of the spam goes to /dev/null and 
I never see it.

Literally, all I have to do to read my mail is switch kde to the window that 
kmail is running in, and tap the plus key to read the next email.  Its a 1 
botton click to bring up the editor in a few milliseconds (with the curser 
positioned at the bottom of the message) so I can reply to this mail, and 
when I am done typing, and don't see too many miss-spellings, it is one more 
click to send it.

NO web forum can come within 5 clicks/message of being that simple.
