The FPGA itself is only a small part of the problem. An EP2C20 will 
currently set you back upwards of USD$40, depending on the speed grade. But 
it's the cost of the PCB, power supplies and connectors that *very* quickly 
add up. There's simply no way you could build a "Coco 4" for the price of a 
DE1 in small quantities.
