Hi,

As a counter to all the bad stories, I have Earthlink as my ISP, have had
for years before Mindspring took over Earthlink but kept the name. Started
with 56K.

After giving up on the Street Light Pole ISP who gave up after they were
Googled to death and I gave up sooner as it never would work. (Don't start a
business to charge customers and have your business model killed by another
company giving it away. Sort of how a new free GPS service is currently
killing many companies.)

DSL rate when installed was the bare minimum, quickly I got Earthlink to pay
AT&T to send someone out to get it up to ~ 650 .

One day I was disturbed by the doorbell and there was AT&T announcing that
their Universe had arrived. Not interested as I have lots of OTA equipment
and Comcast fiber was at my door anyway.

A few weeks later I noticed that my Internet speed appeared to be faster.
Checking the rate it now was 1.3.

AT&T had laid fiber to ~ 1000 feet from my unit and moved the Earthlink
modem there.

So, I got a speed increase with no effort, about the time I had started to
think about changing.

Now that AT&T is talking about 27 I wonder if I will get another speed
increase.
