[Coco] CoCo 3 with MPI crashes when booting Nitros-9

Any thoughts as to why my CoCo 3 almost always crashes when it boots
Nitros-9 off a floppy disk, the controller being plugged into the MPI's
slot #4 (usually right after displaying "i2xoC")?
The MPI is cat. # 26-3124, and the FDC is cat. # 26-3029.
At first I thought the problem was with one of the three mods I made
lately (homemade 512k upgrade, HD63B09EP in a socket, and 27c256 in a
socket), but then I plugged the floppy disk controller directly into the
CoCo's expansion port, and I no longer experience crashes when booting
Nitros-9.
I never owned an MPI before, so I'm not used to the problems related
with this device. Perhaps the edge connectors are oxidized? The contacts
don't look like they're gold-plated.
