Indeed... I paid 80 dollars back in 1984 for a *brand new* one with the 16k
RAM pak right when RS started to push them out of the catalog. Remember that
newsletter offer that came on all TRS computers back then?. When I got the
MC-10 that program was starting to be phased out as well, so RS offered a 30
dollar rebate on any purchase at the store. So I went back to my local store
in Nogales Arizona with my $30.00 coupon... browsed the shelves and finally
decided on getting the Pinball game for the MC-10, the price on that thing
was 14.95 or something like that... sales clerk was the obnoxious one at the
store and glancing at the rebate offer he said "you know we can not return
any left over money on this" as he figured my game was of lesser value than
the coupon face value, "yes that's ok" I said but he only gave me this look
like 'you just don't get it do you?' and insisted on the same thing... I had
begun to become confused as well...

I had read the fine print: up to $30.00 on a SINGLE item, any overage must
be paid by the buyer, any item of lesser value was to be free with nothing
else returned to the customer... you know, the usual rebate thing. This guy
insisted and with a very condescending voice told me "you need to get more
stuff to make up the total, if you go over just pay the difference". I still
went on with an "are you sure?" to which he said YES. So there I go back to
the shelves for Checkers, the Math/Plot program, the Games collection and
even a cassette cable (I think), dropped everything on the counter and paid
about 5 dollars on the difference above the face value of the coupon.

Went back to school the next day and told my friends about the nice
rebate... they too went to RS that weekend to trade in their coupons BUT by
then, Mr. Smarty Pants Manager in Training had gotten his act together and
properly handled those rebates on a single item. Poor fellas. I tried to
explain to the guy but he was so convinced of his role that I finally gave
up and got a really good deal on stuff for the MC-10.
