It's one of the settings in /dd.  Dmode will show it.
If the floppy was formatted with a different TPI (tracks per inch),
than what /dd expects it to be, it won't be accessible.  At least
that's what I've found trying to read my Tandy OS9 disks under
NitrOS9.
