[Coco] resurrecting 5" disks

Bob, I'll add my opinion here also. I have ordered literally thousands of
disks from eBay. I'll run into some where the recording surfaces of the
disks have been deteriorating. They don't make a howling noise, but they do
make a very load rasping noise, almost like sandpaper was put in the drive.
Very often, my disk drive will no longer read or write after trying to read
one of these disks. If you look at the disk surface closely, it looks like
there are tiny fish scales coating the entire surface. When this does kill
my drives, running a disk cleaning kit always removes the build-up on the
heads that accumulated from the disk surface. Is this possibly your
problem, or is it caused by a damaged sleeve that others have mentioned? I
have also needed to replace a damaged sleeve on a disk that contained Coco
data I couldn't afford to lose. Good luck!
