Yeah, I have no idea what sort of MIDI playing capabilities you might have  
(look for "playmidi" or "timidity"), but you can test the graphics and mouse  
response.  Hope for a /dev/sequencer or /dev/midi driver.
 
Someone gave me an almost new 900 MHz PC with Fedora Linux installed.   
UltiMusE runs great on it -- but the machine has no MIDI drivers at all, despite  
having a nice sound card.  So it's look, touch, but don't listen on that  box, 
which I rarely use.
