I assume you're right, but what I was getting at wasn't theory (spec) so much as practice (actual C code). Almost no real-life code will work off the bat if int's are 8-bit. So given that it seems like a strange decision. Unless the programmer is more concerned with theory than practice, which happens from time to time ;-) -- John.
