FWIW... in my SCSI system (Kenton), I split the cable only at the interface. 
The two identical drives are using the complete cable and it works fine. 
This was according to the instructions given to me from those folks when I 
bought the interface(which didn't come with the darned thing. I had to call 
them and ask).
