[Coco] Re: OT -- Texas and highway laws in general

Yes, the left lane is "passing only", but the main reason, people tend to stay in the left lane, making it a "high-speed lane" is because of heavy trucks...18-wheelers, buses, etc. They pretty much stay on the right lane. Anyone and everyone knows the left lane just flat-out provides a more smooth driving experience. The heavy trucks keep that right line pretty chewed up.
Im sure Korea or Japan doesnt have big rigs flying around at 150 kph like we do here in the States. Just an observation.

I remember a movie I've seen on TV in 1984 which was called "Swamp
Thing" (not the TV show, not the sequel "Return of the Swamp Thing"), I
think it's this one
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0792846494.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
and I remember a CoCo appearing there to make the cheap backdrop of that
B-movie look more like a lab. It was displaying some random lines in
circles in PMODE3 on the screen. Maybe I've been only dreaming, I dreamt
a lot when I had 14 years... ;-) Can anyone confirm it? I should buy the
movie just to prove that, I guess it's one of those 5$ DVDs.

Any other movies showing the CoCo? We should have a collection of screen
shots in a gallery on coco3.com...

Don't sweat it. It's documentation for ROMs - not included. Try to find a
copy of the "6809 Cook Book" instead (don't pay too much). It has a library
in source and hex dump format.

Lane Weasels are a real problem. Those are the folks that use the high
speed lane to go slow in.

THERE IS NO "HIGH SPEED LANE"!! Get your driver's hand book out. The left most lane is intended as a PASSING LANE on the Interstate System, NOT A FAST LANE. You're supposed to drive in the right lane (on a two lane each way Interstate) UNLESS YOU'RE PASSING A VEHICLE.

Okay, I do the same thing sometimes, get going in the left lane and just don't move over for a while -- we all do. Doesn't make it right! But I agree, the people traveling in the left lane, whether they are doing the speed limit or under, are a big nuisance. Coming across Virginia one year I had to use the right lane to pass more people than anywhere else I can recall. Many people were running the speed limit and in the left lane with no other traffic for miles -- never an attempt to get back in the right lane. Face it -- Americans in general are some of the worst drivers in the world! The Koreans aren't a lot better, but for the most part they obey more traffic laws (there are exceptions!). Japanese are even better. Both are a LOT more patient than we are, but then they have to be with all the traffic in some areas.

The main reason many other countries have better drivers in general is because the driving age is higher, and the requirements are stricter. No formal education, not even a high school class, is required to get a license in the US -- it is in Japan, Korea, and most of Europe. When a moron teaches his kid to drive, guess what you get? Another moron on the road! Yeah, I taught my kid, tried to do it right. So far so good -- she's a more careful driver than either me or my wife.
