Too much work with restoring the screen, imho.  Easier way is to  remove the 
HD and place
it in another laptop, or a desktop even, using a hd adapter to let it  
connect to a IDE ribbon
cable.  A jumper may be required to config as a slave hd.  That  way you can 
check out the
drive's contents to see if it's important enough to restore the original  
laptop.
