You would think that, but universities are still teaching assembly, 
though based on RISC processors.  In fact, I am taking the prescribed 
"assembly language" course this semester. It is being taught on a MIPS 
processor.  Actually, we never touch real hardware.  Everything is done 
on a simulator running on a Solaris machine (or in my case, my Mac).

And yes, the syntax of the MIPS assembler is much the same as Baldwin's 
syntax.
